Sunlight Mountain

Located only 150 miles west of Denver, Sunlight Mountain Resort is the local ski area of Glenwood Springs. It’s an undiscovered, 9,985-foot gem of a resort. Since Colorado is blessed with so many world-class destination resorts, many people have forgotten about, or never heard of this inexpensive, family-oriented area.

On the Slopes

From the summit of Sunlight Mountain, skiers and riders enjoy some of Colorado’s most impressive vistas of the Elk Mountain Range. Both novices and experts alike can descend on their choice of 66 trails that lead you back to the centrally located base lodge. It’s the type of mountain where it’s hard to lose track of your friends because everyone eventually turns up at the sole, full-service base lodge. For Nordic skiers there are about 10 miles of groomed back-country trails winding through the adjacent, White River Natural Forest. For a tranquil lunch break, there’s a heated rustic cabin open to all. Learn more about skiing and riding the area with Ski Experience and Terrain Parks.

Off the Slopes

After skiing and riding, there’s nothing quite like a dip in the world’s largest outdoor hot springs pool. For over a 100 years, bathers have been rejuvenated by the soothing, warm waters of the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool. It’s open year-round until 10 p.m. daily. In addition to the Frontier Historic Musuem and the Railroad Museum, your family will also enjoy tours of the local caves and caverns. The Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is open year-round and has laser tag, 4D theater, and an alpine coaster. Or test out the only vaper caves in North America where hot mineral waters flow through the cave floors to create a natural geothermal steam bath. In town there are lodging establishments and restaurants to suit every taste and budget. For other diversions, try shopping, browsing in art galleries or sampling the liquid wares of the Glenwood Canyon Brew Pub.

Getting Here

Explore the area with the California Zephry train that travels from Chicago to San Francisco with stops in Denver, Grand Junction, and Glenwood Springs. If you are looking to fly and drive, the Denver International Airport is 160 miles east and Grand Junction is a short 90 miles west.
