Sunshine Village

The Sunshine Village Ski Resort is one of the most popular regional ski resorts, yet it manages to provide an uncrowded snowboarding and skiing experience on its vast and diverse terrain. Just a 15 minute drive from the town of Banff, but nestled in the middle of Canada’s first National Park, Sunshine Village provides a remote mountain experience with amazing views that is highly accessible to anyone visiting or staying in town.  If you’re there in May you can catch the Slush Cup, a decades-long tradition where big crowds gather at the base to watch skiers compete in the snow melts at the end of the season.

Canada’s Best Powder

Sunshine Village Ski Resort sits high in the Canadian Rockies at altitudes toping nearly 9,000 feet where crisp conditions ensure mounds of dry, powdery snow all season long. In fact, the resort isn’t in the business of making snow, it doesn’t need to.  Mother Nature graces it with 30+ feet of snow per year on average, resulting in an exceptional 7-month long ski season and some of the best snow in Canada.

Three mountains – Standish, Lookout and Goat’s Eye – provide a panoramic vista that only nature can conceive.  More than 3,300 skiable acres make up the terrain at this long-standing resort in Alberta, and it is possible to ski and ride two provinces in one run.

Off the Slopes

There are two dozen or so restaurants, pubs, bars and coffee houses within the resort where you can stop and grab something to eat and drink. The choices are enough to suit a variety of tastes from casual to fine dining. The ski-in/ski-out mountain lodge features an outdoor hot pool and daily family-friendly activities.  Alternatively, guests can venture off to the town of Banff only 15-20 minutes away, for a multitude of world-class dining, shopping, lodging, events and activities.

Getting Here

Sunshine Village sits about 80 miles west of the Calgary International Airport and is accessible from the town of Banff, just 5 miles west on the Trans-Canada Highway.  You can rent a car or take a shuttle during the ski season from Calvary, or from Canmore in less than one hour.
