Wintersköl began in Aspen over 65 years ago, when locals first gathered to celebrate the Nordic way of life for those living there. Every year has a theme and this season’s theme is “Better Together.” The theme pays homage to the connection between the community of people who live in Aspen and those who travel from all over the world to enjoy the incredible skiing, snowboarding, and the breathtaking Rocky Mountains. Wintersköl takes place in mid January, annually.

The festival features many events like a canine fashion show, snow sculpting competitions for children and adults, special events at the Aspen Art Museum, film screenings, concerts, tubing, ice skating, and so much more. There is something for everyone at Wintersköl.

For those who would prefer to be on the slopes, there are extra perks throughout the days like free swag, complimentary drinks, and Après Ski Parties. For those who prefer to stay in town, learn about the rich history of Aspen, grab your friends and make a snow sculpture, or just mingle with the community, celebrating the unity of locals and guests.

Right now the Aspen Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the Wintersköl King and Queen. These are people who have embraced the ski community, make significant contributions to the community, and exemplify the Wintersköl spirit. If you know someone in Aspen who you think would be great for this role, send in a 75-word essay to the Aspen Chamber and let them know.

Aspen is a destination to many mountain lovers from all over. But also, it is home to so many who cherish this area and love to see it flourish. To be a part of Wintersköl, plan a trip to Aspen this January.
