A Colorado Hidden Gem: Eldora Mountain Resort
When people come to Colorado to go skiing, or locals head to the mountains, there are a lot of big-name ski resorts to choose from. Vail, Aspen, and Winter Park are just a few that are very well-known. Of course there are benefits to going to such a large and popular ski resort, but there are just as many benefits of going to a hidden gem like Eldora Mountain Resort. You get all of the fun of a day on the slopes without the drive, the traffic, and the crowds.
Eldora Mountain Resort is only 21 miles (about 35 minutes) west of Boulder, Colorado, making it the easiest resort for most people on the Front Range to get to. Coming from DIA, it is also the closest ski resort. In fact, their slogan is, “Eldora: Closer to You.”
And while this resort isn’t as popular as some of the bigger names, it still has so many things skiers and riders love. There are dozens of runs of all levels for both alpine and nordic skiing. The ski passes are an incredible deal and you can’t find a better place to take the whole family with the pricing and the proximity in the Front Range. There are four places to eat on the mountain so you can regain your energy during or after a long day on the slopes.
Eldora may have hit 55 years old but that doesn’t mean that they don’t have something brand new for you. Recently purchased by Powdr Adventure Lifestyle Co. Eldora is looking fresh these days. Powdr also now owns Copper Mountain, and they are making these resorts more sustainable so we can continue to play in the snow. The latest member of the Eldora family is the high-speed six-seater chairlift, “The Alpenglow Lift.” You can sit comfortably enjoying the scenic view of the pines and peaks then hit the slopes faster. This isn’t the only new feature to Eldora, but they also added a few more runs and remodeled the bathrooms. Who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?
When it comes to lodging, you have the chance to stay in any number of hotels in Boulder, Nederland, or Estes Park. The Eldora website actually declares Boulder to be, “Colorado’s Best Kept Secret Ski Town.” Opening day is just around the corner on November 17th.
